Acorn Fayre 2nd Sept gig – posted 9.08.11

Bad news! The organisers have been forced to cancel the event. The official comment: "at a meeting with the current management and the local environmental health representative we were informed that the event could only go ahead if we were able to keep our noise output at an average of 65dB throughout the weekend, measurements to be taken every fifteen minutes and averaged out afterwards, with any phone calls from residents resulting in an environmental health officer coming out to continually monitor the output. an un-amplified flute has an output over 85dB.

we are extremely disappointed by this unexpected occurrence, but without a suitable alternative venue becoming available we can't see any way to allow the event to go ahead. all ticket monies will be refunded. we can do little more than apologise deeply and sincerely until further notice. we are so sorry to everyone involved."

We have been told they are trying to make alternative arrangements, so watch this space, but at this late stage it seems unlikely anything can be done to save it. Good luck to all at Acorn Fayre 2012. Lovely people dedicated to keeping great music live.

In the past few months the Neds have played gigs as far apart as Edinburgh, Bristol, Peterborough and Chepstow: that's 375 miles north to south & 175 miles east to west my friends. We've played in England, Scotland & Wales (watch out Ireland!), and we've done it all under our own steam. But now we've got Jim power! We are delighted to announce the arrival of Jim Walker to the band, on the electric fiddle, a man with a wealth of experience in various top notch bands, including the Wholesome Fish & the Glastonbury festival house band. In addition to this, he has discerning taste buds when it comes to sniffing out the best real ale in town! We've played a few gigs with Jim now (that included a mass stage invasion at Sheffield by the way) & he feels very much a part of the ned gang, so now there's even more fun to be had for one 'n all of yers! Onwards & Nedwards...!

Nedlings and Aliens – posted 30.10.09

The Neds had a close encounter of the galactic kind at the weekend when we 'beamed down' to the Criterion in Leicester. We were lucky enough to befriend an insane group of extra terrestrials & Sci-fi nerds as our crowd & what a motley crew they were! Jean-Luc Picard/Captain Kirk (our host), Princess Leia, Yoda, John Hurt and blood curdling parasitic pal, Dr Spock, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Maul and one lost child of the Damned!Bizarrely, or some might say, Not!, we fitted in rather well with ‘em, but then Nedlingshire is pretty far out anyhow! As the night moved on, our Captain ran clips from some of the best Sci-fi films from the 50's shown in glorious Cinemascope and Metrocolor. Remember 'Forbidden Planet', 'It came from Outer Space', and a multitude of other greats?! A truly starstudded evening! And yes, it really did happen. Make it so......

Canal House Pub, Robin Hood World Record Breaking Event - 08 Mar 2008

So, we did it! And the Neds were there. We had been invited to play for the ‘troops’ as the record to get as many people dressed up as Robin Hood together in one place – Nottingham Castle – was smashed, with the official number standing at 1,119. Organiser Dave Green said he was impressed that so many people had turned out. "It is one thing to have people agree to a good idea but quite another to have them make the effort on the day, especially when it is so cold. I'm very, very pleased."

He added: "We did this to bring people together, to reflect all the people we have in the city.

"The thing about the Robin Hood record is that anyone can take part, everyone is welcome, as long as you are prepared to make a bit of a fool of yourself."

And that’s something the Ned never minds doing!
